INTEGRATED INFORMATION MODELING

Integrated information modeling is one of the most important activities of GOSINFOTECH corporation. The Institute of Information Modeling, which is engaged in the development of IIM technology in the Russian territory is a part of the corporation.

What is IIM?

Integrated Information Modeling (IIM) is a highly effective method of monitoring and managing information regarding an object in order to make managerial and day-to-day decisions throughout the life cycle (from planning to design, detailed engineering, construction, operation and demolition).

IIM provides an opportunity to manage construction and operation of investment and construction projects of any complexity based on the latest reliable data with the use of up-to-date software and hardware facilities.

IIM is successfully applied in various fields, such as: power industry, social and economic field, in the process of management and operation of buildings and structures, and many others.

How does IIM work?

The IIM methodology is based on a three-dimensional information model on the basis of which the activities of an investor, a customer, a designer, a general contractor and an operating company are arranged. As opposed to the traditional two-dimensional and tabular representation of information regarding the object, visualization in a three-dimensional form allows working on a project more quickly and conveniently.

It should be noted that all elements inside the built 3D model are interrelated. The system automatically analyzes any change with respect to all elements, and only after that it makes changes in the complex model. In addition to the above, the system identifies related collisions and contradictions between the elements. Data is added to the information model throughout the life cycle of the structure. It is necessary for planning business activities, designing, purchasing materials, coordinating work at different project sections, logistics, installation works and assembly, construction, and commissioning.

First of all, an approach to buildings and structures design through the prism of IIM technology provides for collection and integrated processing throughout the object life cycle of all architectural / design, engineering, economic, operational and other information regarding the object including all interrelations, when all system parts are considered as inseparable components.

Data is added to the information model throughout the life cycle of the structure. It is necessary for planning business activities, designing, purchasing materials, coordinating work at different project sections, logistics, installation works and assembly, construction, and commissioning. At this concept, the principal and managerial decisions with regard to the object are to be made on the basis of reliable and complete information. Considering the information volume and the processes complexity, its collection and processing can be performed only using computer-aided procedures and applying a unified methodology and algorithms of IIM.

The IIM technology basis consists of processes, ways of joint work with information regarding the construction facilities. Processes regulate work with the IIM model, which includes intelligent objects and parametric correlations. The IIM model level of detail is recorded for each stage of work on the project. This allows making managerial decisions, having all information required and without overloading the model.

The main goal of integrated information modeling is control and management of construction and operation of investment and construction projects of any complexity based on the latest reliable data, increase of efficiency by means of up-to-date software and hardware facilities application.

Information modeling of objects is a process of integrated creation and use of information regarding an object, which forms the basis for managerial and day-to-day decisions throughout the life cycle (from planning to design, detailed engineering, construction, operation, and demolition). The basis is a three-dimensional information model, as part of which the activities of an investor, a customer, a designer, a general contractor, and an operating company are arranged. This is an innovative approach to use information regarding the object accompanied with visualization in a three-dimensional form as opposed to the traditional one based on information application and use in two-dimensional and tabular representation.

The information model is formed in accordance with the following fundamental principles:

Use of high-precision smart modeling including verification and audit of initial data.

Information publicity among all interested parties.

Model internal organizational structure application.

Use of dynamically interrelated components affecting the correct situation interpretation.

Use of semantic information that is divided by semantic features and allows managing structured data packages.

          IIM Advantages

  • Accurate information regarding the object.
The IIM allows you to use only the latest data while working on the project.

  • Cutting Terms.
You will be able to significantly decrease the project terms, approvals obtaining terms, including the examination of design solutions with the use of the BIM model.

  • Cost Reduction.
Should the IIM apply, you will be able to enhance the cost of construction and design, to control expenses and improve the forecasting accuracy.

  • Minor Errors.
You will reduce the number of design changes and errors and will be able to detect collisions even before construction starts, to improve quality of design estimates due to the latest data on operational and cost indicators of materials and equipment.

  • The order of business processes.
The IIM makes it possible to manage the construction and on-site designer supervision processes during construction and installation works, to arrange storage of the latest design and operating documentation data, as well as to ensure communication between managers and designers.

Integrated information modeling application is an innovative approach proved to be successful in a short time. This approach is increasingly found in everyday life and brings tremendous profits even now.
